Santa Monica College at Santa Ana College – JUCO Football

This past weekend I traveled on the Santa Monica College team bus to cover their game against the Santa Ana Dons in Santa Ana, California.  This was my first team bus ride since my football playing days when I was in eighth grade.  The highlight was on the trip home when the bus driver pulled over at McDonald’s allowing the players to grab something to eat.  80 players and a cheer squad filling up a McDonald’s was a sight to see.  Clearly, I was not expecting this iconic moment because my camera was under the bus.  Lesson has been learned.

Game Report: Santa Monica jumped out to an early lead but was unable to hold on.  A tied score at 14-14 mid-way through the second quarter was the closest SMC would get.  The Dons scored the next 36 points to put away the Corsairs.  SMC lost 27-53.

Santa Monica High School vs Culver City High School

The Santa Monica High School football game on Nov 5th most likely was my best game of the season in regards to getting the best shots.

Starting in the third quarter I tried something new by lying flat on my stomach to achieve a field level view.  I love this camera angle and produced some amazing shots.

All the photos in this posting were taken lying on my stomach.  It looks weird to the people around me but I don’t care because the results are worth it.

Santa Monica College vs Glendale Community College 11.6.10

Santa Monica trailing by 7 -14 going into the 3rd quarter turned this around with a punt return Deshawn Stewart.  Santa Monica scored two more touchdowns to take a 28 to 14 lead.  The 28 points were enough to hold off a winless Glendale team, 28 to 21.

The game had so many pentalies the referees had to ice their arms after throwing their flags so many times.  One player from each side got ejected from the game including starting quarterback James Cammack for SMC.  SMC had to bring in their third string quarterback, linebacker Jonathan McNeal to manage the rest of the game late in the second half.

Venice High School vs Hamilton High School 11.5.10

Venice High School travel to Hamilton High School for an afternoon game on Friday, November 5th.  On the school’s website the game had a 2pm kickoff but the game kickoff at 3pm.  I arrived at 1:30pm to find no one on the field.  Thinking I was in the wrong place I drove around the block then noticed Venice players getting off the bus.  A sense of relief came over me when I knew I was in the correct place.  Once in the right place I wanted the hour and half for kickoff.

Venice takes the victory 35-7.
