The Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Triathlon Presented by Herbalife started on Venice Beach and ended in downtown Los Angeles on Chick Hearn Ct between the Staples Center and L.A. Live. Easier said than done! The triathlon begins with a swim of 0.9 miles then bicycling of 24 miles and finishing with a run of 6.2 miles.
To photograph this assignment I woke up at 5:50am and left the house a little after 6:00am. I reached Venice Beach around 6:30am about 45 minutes before the elite athletes start time. After photographing on the beach for about an hour, I started walking along Venice Blvd to photograph the biking leg. I then got back to my car to drive downtown. It was rough getting back to the 10 highway because of the street closures. A few mistakes along the way did result in seeing Arnold Schwarzenegger riding his bike on Main Street in Santa Monica.
I finally reached downtown in enough time to catch a few of the elite athletes still on their bikes. I shot a few images then headed my way to the finish line to capture Cameron Dye (Male) who finished first with a time of 1:46:34 and Lisa Norden (Female) in 1:57:16.
Photos will be posted in 3 segments from the triathlon.

I have lived in Los Angeles 3 months shy of 4 years. Always knowing it was possible for the Wisconsin Badgers to play in the Rose Bowl has always been dream of mine for them to come out to LA. Living in SoCal I did not need to pay for airfare or hotel just a game ticket. The Wisconsin Badgers played amazingly during the season and earned a invitation to the Rose Bowl and play TCU (Texas Christian University) on January 1st, 2011. TCU played a great game and defeated the Badgers 21 to 19.
Wisconsin fans are one of the best traveling fans in the country. They flocked to Los Angeles and covered LA in Badger Red. My aunt, uncle and cousin came out for the game and I was fortunate to be able to see them and hang out. It made me feel like I was back in Wisconsin for a few days, almost I still was able to wear shorts!
The pictures below demonstrate the home away from home feel in Los Angeles.
The Wisconsin Badger football team uses a police escort around town. The California Highway Patrol motorcycles sported the Wisconsin decal.

Southern California is famous for many things. One of the more visited locations in So Cal is the beach. Located in the South Bay, Hemosa Beach is a great location with ample activities to keep you busy throughout the day. Walking or riding your bike along The Strand is a MUST. Don’t rule out eating at the countless restaurants steps away from the sand. Bring sun block and stay for the sunset!
