The events of this summer (2012) are eerily similar to my childhood summer of 1998 – details I had not realized before typing these words for the blog. At the age of 16 I set off for Israel with a core group of summer camp friends. We toured the country as any group would do for about five weeks. After our trip we spent a few nights at home with our parents and then set off to visit our summer home in northern Wisconsin at Camp Interlaken. Fast forward 14 years to late June 2012, I was fortunate to be able to travel back to Israel. This 10-day trip, in partnership with a local synagogue in the Los Angeles area, let me reconnect with Israel by visiting new sites and tasting some amazing foods. After arriving back in the states, I rested for three days. Then, as I had done when I was 16, I traveled back to Wisconsin, visited my family and spent two weeks working at Camp Interlaken, my summer home for 15 years.
Within the next few weeks I hope to post photos from my travels. The first installment will be from Gan Sachne — a natural spring located about two hours northeast of Jerusalem in Israel — a great place to cool off in the hot Israeli sun.
